MINNESOTA STUDENT SURVEY FOR FIFTH GRADERS

MINNESOTA STUDENT SURVEY FOR FIFTH GRADERS

Dear FAIR Pilgrim Lane fifth grade families:

In the next few weeks, our fifth grade students will be participating in the 2025 Minnesota Student Survey (MSS). All fifth grade students in Robbinsdale Area Schools will be taking the same survey. Students in grades 8, 9 and 11 will also be taking a Minnesota Student Survey. An email was sent to you on January 2, 2025.

The MSS is an anonymous, statewide, school-based survey that helps the Minnesota Department of Education (MDE) and other state agencies gain insights into the world of students and their experiences. It’s also one of the longest running youth surveys in the nation.

Our fifth graders will be taking the survey, which takes approximately 30-50 minutes to complete, on January 21, 2025.

It’s important for you to know the MSS is voluntary, and our fifth grade families can choose not to have their students participate. You have the right to review a copy of the survey. For details on how to do this, please contact: Assessment Specialist Elsa Littel, 763-504-8103 / elsa_littel@rdale.org or Christine Bush, 763-504-8403. If you don’t want your student to take the anonymous survey, please fill out our digital opt-out form or contact your student’s school for a paper opt-out form.

The survey is important. The MSS is the primary source of comprehensive data on youth at the state, county and local level in Minnesota. The survey asks students about how well school is going, their future plans, out-of-school activities, physical and mental health, relationships, substance use and more. This useful information about their thoughts and behaviors helps communities and schools develop effective programs and provide better services.

Again, the survey and its results are totally anonymous. To prevent students or families from being identified, students do not provide their names, student identification numbers, or other personal information.

Thank you for your support and continued partnership.

Sincerely,

Nancy Froelich, Principal
