Glimpse of Our Year

AUGUST

OPEN HOUSE 

FAIR Pilgrim Lane's Open House is scheduled for the last week of August. An email will be sent to parents and guardians with the specific date and time. During this event, families will have the opportunity to meet their child's teacher, visit the classroom, and complete necessary forms. Additionally, our Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) hosts a fantastic Open House event, allowing everyone to gather and celebrate the start of the school year.

SEPTEMBER

FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL

Grades 1 - 5 start the school year first. These students start the first day of school.

Kindergarten students have "Meet the Teacher" and assessment days the first two days of school. A sign up is sent out to all parents mid-August to reserve a spot. Then students with the last names of A-L attend school on Thursday of the first week and students with the last name of M-Z attend school on Friday of the first week. This allows all students to transition into school and receive the support they need.

OCTOBER

KINDNESS IN CHALK DAY

FAIR Pilgrim Lane celebrated its annual Kindness in Chalk Day, a heartwarming event where students, teachers, and staff gathered to spread positivity through colorful chalk messages. The sidewalks around the school were transformed into vibrant displays of kindness, with uplifting words, inspiring quotes, and drawings that brightened everyone’s day. The initiative aimed to foster a sense of community, encouraging acts of kindness both big and small. It also provided an opportunity for students to reflect on how kindness can create a more inclusive and supportive environment, all while adding a creative touch to their school grounds. The day was a beautiful reminder of the power of kind words and actions in making the world a better place.

UNITY DAY

FAIR Pilgrim Lane celebrates Unity Day, a nationwide event dedicated to promoting kindness, inclusion, and the prevention of bullying. Organized in collaboration with PACER’s National Bullying Prevention Center, Unity Day encourages students and staff to wear orange as a symbol of support for safe, supportive, and inclusive communities. Through engaging activities, educational discussions, and creative projects, the day fosters a sense of unity and belonging, reminding everyone of the importance of standing together against bullying and embracing diversity.

ART ADVENTURES

The Minnesota Institute of Art (MIA) offers the Adventures in Art program, an enriching educational initiative designed to inspire creativity and foster a love for the arts. This program provides participants with opportunities to engage in hands-on art activities, and learn about various artistic techniques and cultural histories. Tailored for students, Adventures in Art encourages curiosity and self-expression while deepening an understanding of how art connects to our lives and the world around us. Parents volunteer to teach the program in the classrooms and attend the trainings from the MIA.

CONFERENCES

Fall conferences provided a valuable opportunity for parents and teachers to come together and discuss the academic and social-emotional growth of students. These meetings served as a collaborative space where educators shared insights on students' progress, strengths, and areas for improvement. Parents were encouraged to share their perspectives, fostering a deeper understanding of their child's experiences both in and outside the classroom. Together, they worked to identify strategies and set goals that would support each student’s individual needs, ensuring that both their academic success and emotional well-being were nurtured. The open communication between parents and teachers helped to strengthen the partnership, creating a unified approach to supporting students' overall development.

"NIGHT OF THE ARTS"

FAIR Pilgrim Lane’s "Night of the Arts," sponsored by the PTO, was a spectacular celebration of student talent and creativity. The event showcased the diverse artistic abilities of students, offering a platform for them to share their passion for visual arts, music, dance, and drama. The school’s halls were filled with vibrant artwork, while performances captivated the audience with the students' dedication and skill. Parents, teachers, and fellow students gathered to applaud the hard work and creativity of the young artists. This night highlighted the importance of the arts in education and provided a wonderful opportunity for students to shine and gain confidence in their artistic expressions. The support from the PTO helped make the event a memorable evening, reinforcing the school’s commitment to fostering creativity in all its forms.

BLACK HISTORY STAGES THEATRE PRESENTATION

During Black History Month, the Grade 3 students at FAIR Pilgrim Lane have the opportunity to showcase their learning through vibrant performances that celebrated the contributions and achievements of Black individuals throughout history. The students worked hard to research and understand the significance of key historical figures, cultural milestones, and movements, which they then brought to life through skits, music, and spoken word. Their performances are a powerful reflection of their deepened understanding of Black history and the ongoing impact on society. The event not only allowed students to honor the accomplishments of leaders like Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks, and others, but it also provided an engaging way for the entire school community to reflect on the importance of diversity, equality, and respect.

"I LOVE TO READ MONTH"

"I Love to Read Month" at FAIR Pilgrim Lane is a highly anticipated celebration that highlights the joy and importance of reading. Throughout the month, students engage in a variety of fun and interactive reading activities designed to inspire a love for books and foster a lifelong habit of reading. From cozy read-aloud sessions to creative book-themed challenges, the school encourages students to explore new genres, authors, and ideas. 

100th DAY OF SCHOOL - DRESS UP

Dressing up to celebrate the 100th day of school at FAIR Pilgrim Lane is a fun and meaningful tradition that highlights the journey of growth and learning. Students and teachers alike come dressed in creative outfits to mark this significant milestone in the school year. This celebration serves as a reminder that, just as we reach 100 days of learning, we continue to grow and develop as individuals throughout our lives. The day encourages students to reflect on how much they have learned and achieved, while also inspiring them to embrace the idea that learning is a lifelong process. As we age, our growth in knowledge, skills, and understanding never stops, and the 100th day serves as a celebration of that ongoing journey.

Kindness Week at FAIR Pilgrim Lane is a special time for students to focus on giving back to the community. This year, students will pack items for local agencies and people in need, helping to spread kindness and support those who are less fortunate. Through this hands-on service project, students will learn the importance of compassion, empathy, and making a positive impact in the world around them. Kindness Week provides an opportunity to teach students that small acts of kindness can make a big difference in the lives of others.

BAND AND ORCHESTRA CONCERT

The Band and Orchestra Concert at FAIR Pilgrim Lane is a highly anticipated event that showcases the incredible musical talents of the students. During the concert, students in both the band and orchestra have the opportunity to perform pieces they’ve been working on, demonstrating their dedication, skill, and passion for music. The concert features a variety of musical genres and instruments, with students playing everything from brass and woodwind to strings and percussion. Through their performances, they not only highlight their individual growth but also the power of teamwork and collaboration, as each group works together to create beautiful, harmonious music. This event is a celebration of the students’ hard work and a wonderful way to share their musical achievements with the school community.

Spring Conferences at FAIR Pilgrim Lane provide a wonderful opportunity for parents, students, and teachers to come together and celebrate the growth and progress made throughout the year. During these conferences, students reflect on their achievements, while teachers share insights into academic performance, social development, and personal growth. It’s a time to recognize the hard work and dedication that students have put into their learning. Together, parents, students, and teachers discuss strengths, set goals for continued growth, and create a plan for the remainder of the school year. These conferences foster a strong partnership between home and school, ensuring that students finish the year with a clear sense of direction and accomplishment.

CONNECTING GENERATIONS

FAIR Pilgrim Lane partners with Stages Theatre to present *Connecting Generations*, a heartwarming program that bridges the gap between age groups through the transformative power of storytelling and performance. This initiative brings together students and older adults to create, share, and perform stories that reflect their unique experiences and shared humanity. By fostering intergenerational connections, the program cultivates empathy, creativity, and a deeper appreciation for diverse perspectives, enriching the lives of participants and audiences alike.

MINNESOTA COMPREHENSIVE TEST (MCA) - GRADE 3 - 5

The Minnesota Comprehensive Assessments (MCA) for Grades 3-5 are an important part of evaluating students' academic progress in key areas such as reading, math, and science. These assessments provide valuable data that helps teachers and administrators understand how well students are mastering the state’s academic standards. The MCAs give students the opportunity to demonstrate their knowledge and skills, while also helping the school identify areas where additional support or improvement may be needed. Although the assessments are challenging, they are a key part of the learning process, allowing both students and educators to track progress and set goals for future growth.

GRADE 5 MUSCIAL

The culmination activity with Stages Theatre and the Grade 5 Musical at FAIR Pilgrim Lane was an exciting and memorable experience for both students and the school community. Throughout the months leading up to the performance, Grade 5 students worked closely with professionals from Stages Theatre, learning about the art of theater, acting, singing, and dancing. The musical showcased their talents and hard work, as the students brought a story to life on stage with impressive performances and vibrant energy. This collaboration not only highlighted the students' artistic abilities but also taught them valuable lessons in teamwork, perseverance, and creative expression. The culmination activity was a joyful celebration of the students’ growth in the arts, and it left the audience inspired by their dedication and enthusiasm.

DRAGON RUN FUNDRAISER 

The PTO’s biggest fundraiser at FAIR Pilgrim Lane is a key event that helps raise vital funds to support school activities throughout the year. This exciting fundraiser includes a variety of events such as Family Nights, Schoolwide Bingo, Dragon Tickets, and Artists in Residencies, each designed to bring the community together while supporting the school. Family Nights offer fun and engaging activities for all ages, Schoolwide Bingo provides a chance to win prizes while raising funds, and Dragon Tickets give families a chance to participate in special raffles. Additionally, the Artists in Residencies program allows students to interact with professional artists, enhancing their learning experience. The PTO hopes that all students and parents will participate in these events to ensure the success of the fundraiser and continue supporting the wonderful programs at FAIR Pilgrim Lane.

GRADE 5 FAIR-WELL

As the school year comes to a close at FAIR Pilgrim Lane, we celebrate our final event with the heartfelt Grade 5 FAIRwell, a special ceremony to bid farewell to our fifth graders as they transition to FAIR Crystal. This event is filled with emotions, as students, teachers, and families reflect on the growth, achievements, and memories made throughout the year. The Grade 5 students are recognized for their accomplishments, and they are celebrated for their leadership, hard work, and contributions to the school community. The FAIRwell ceremony not only marks the end of their journey at Pilgrim Lane but also serves as a hopeful send-off as they embark on the next chapter of their educational adventure. It’s a time for the entire school to come together, honor the graduating class, and celebrate the lasting impact they’ve made on the school.
