Arts Immersion
FAIR-Pilgrim Lane is a unique educational opportunity for students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 where the emphasis is on the Arts. Fair Pilgrim Lane Elementary is an elementary school that offers an art integration program. This program focuses on embedding the five arts of dance, media, art, music, and visual arts into the curriculum to provide a comprehensive arts education to students.
- Dance: The dance component of the art immersion program at Fair Pilgrim Lane Elementary introduces students to various styles of dance and motion. Students learn dance techniques, choreography, and express themselves through movement.
- Media: The media component incorporates the use of technology and multimedia tools to teach students about various forms of media, including video and digital art. Students may learn about composition, storytelling, editing, and other aspects of media production.
- Art: The art component of the program focuses on fostering creativity and artistic expression. Students explore different art techniques and mediums, such as drawing, painting, sculpture, and collage. They learn about color theory, perspective, and other fundamental concepts while creating their own artwork.
- Music: The music component introduces students to the world of music through various activities. They learn about different musical instruments, music theory, and rhythm. Students may have opportunities to sing, play instruments, and participate in group performances. In Grades 4, students have the opportunity to be members of the orchestra. In Grade 5, students may participate in orchestra and/or band.
- Visual Arts: The visual arts component allows students to explore visual creativity through a variety of mediums. They learn about different art forms, such as painting, sketching, printmaking, and ceramics. Students develop their skills and create their own visual art pieces. Students receive instruction weekly with an art educator.
By integrating these five arts into the curriculum, Fair Pilgrim Lane Elementary aims to provide a well-rounded education that fosters creativity, self-expression, and appreciation for the arts in its students.
Students have the opportunity to experience a variety of arts during artist residencies and field trips. FAIR-Pilgrim Lane partnerships and field trips include Cowles Center for Dance, Stages Theater Company, the Minnesota Orchestra, and the Minnesota Center for Book Arts.
Arts learning strategies and outcomes are infused into literacy, math, science and social studies. Grade level teachers regularly collaborate with arts specialist teachers to create meaningful learning experiences that meet academic standards in both arts and content areas. During a literacy lesson, you may see a class critiquing a work of art; during a math lesson, you may hear students composing their own patterns!
At FAIR-Pilgrim Lane, students develop skills in critical thinking, collaboration, communication and creativity.
